The navy scarf progresses January 16, 2007
I have four sets of cables done now.
Finally. Though the rows aren’t very long—only fifty stitches—for some reason it feels like it’s taking forever to get anywhere.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I desperately want to start a new sweater for myself? Or even a pair of socks? Anything, really, except obligation knitting?
Speaking of which, remember back in early December when I brought home yarn to knit Mom a new afghan? I actually got so far as to look at the pattern yesterday. What needle size do I need to make this work? Ooh, big ones. Size elevens. Cool. I went to dig in my needle drawer, and egads! I have no circular needles in that size. What’s a girl to do? He he. I wandered over to Knit Picks and ordered up some ten and halves—I often have to go down a size—and some elevens, along with the cables to go between them, from their Options line. I’ve been wanting to try these out, and the two pairs were less than I’d pay for one pair of Addi Turbos locally, so I got them. While I was at it, I got a couple balls of a pretty gray Essential sock yarn. I would have paid the same amount for shipping even without the sock yarn, so why not?

The navy scarf for your uncle is looking lovely, even if you’re not really jazzed about working on it.
You are so funny with the stash justification. Sounds familiar.

I think whenever I’m knitting a scarf for someone else, it always seems to take forever, but whe I was knitting the Malabrigo scarf for myself, it seemed to take no time at all…. hmmm…
You might as well start a pair of socks for yourself while you’re knitting the scarf. I mean, what’s it going to hurt? (although I did notice when I do that, the project I’m supposed to be working on kind of “sits” there ignored).
I wish I had an “excuse” to place a KnitPicks order. I sure miss getting new stuff in the mail!

It looks great and you seem to have done a lot to me
I have a question - how easy to knit are socks? Could a beginner do them? Is there an easy pattern somewhere? And can you get nice sock yarn that isn’t 100% wool? I’m tempted to give a pair a try but I haven’t knitted for - ooh - 20 years (eek!) and only very basic stuff. And wool makes me itch…..
That was several questions wasn’t it….. LOL!
